  • James W. Klein, M.D.

    Medical Director

    Dr. James Klein received his undergraduate degree from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine. His residency was completed at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in 1975. After completing his ophthalmology residency, he continued his education with a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. As a Major in the United States Air Force, he served as Chief of Clinical Ophthalmology at the School of Aerospace Medicine and as a consultant to the Air Force and the Army. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds privileges at St. John Hospital, Detroit and Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe.

  • Mariann M. Channell, M.D.

    Ophthalmologist

    Dr. Mariann Channell received her undergraduate schooling at Michigan State University and received her medical degree from Wayne State University in 1980. She served her residency with the Department of Ophthalmology at Sinai Hospital, Detroit. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds privileges at St. John Hospital, Detroit, and Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe.

    Optometrist

    Dr. Mark Bernthal is an optometrist specializing in contact lenses, as well as pre-surgical refractive evaluations and post-surgical management of refractive and cataract patients. He attended Concordia Lutheran College in Ann Arbor and Wayne State University in Detroit. He is a 1979 graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He has been in private practice in St. Clair Shores since 1979 and joined the staff of the Metropolitan Eye Center in 1987.

    Ophthalmologist

    Dr. Malach’s Biography: He obtained his Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, graduating with honors, and his Medical Degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine, also with honors. He did a transitional year residency at Beaumont Hospital Dearborn where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Malach completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at the renowned Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, where he also served as Chief Resident. During his residency, he was honored with the Golden Apple award for Outstanding Resident Teacher. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds privileges at Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe.

  • John-Michael Guest, M.D.

    Ophthalmologists

    He was born and raised in Grosse Pointe. He realized his passion for treating people at a young age and found his love for ophthalmology prior to attending medical school by working as a technician and a scribe for ophthalmologists. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Michigan State University and his Medical Degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his transitional year residency at Beaumont Hospital Dearborn/Taylor. Dr. Guest completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at the renowned Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, where he served as Chief Resident. During his residency, he was honored with the Golden Apple award for Outstanding Resident Teacher. He prides himself on teaching patients about their own eyes so they may fully understand their individual eye conditions and make educated decisions on their eye care with him. Outside of medicine he spends his free time with his wife Alexa, two children Grace and Gordon, and two golden retrievers. Sports have always been a big part of his life and he enjoys playing whenever he can. He enjoys attending and cheering on the Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings as well. He is excited to be working in the community that he was raised in.
